Why is the pavement melting?

It was 109 in Northridge, 111 in Chatsworth, yesterday, June 18. Downtown LA was 80-something, which is the one that's reported inter/nationally. The translation to metric is: bleedin' HOT. It's supposed to be that hot again today.

I am offering up prayers and sacrifices so that my a/c continues to work. The system has gone past the point where my a/c maintenance guy says, "You need to replace this unit." Now, he just shakes his head and adds more chewing gum and wire to the system. In these economic times, it's about all I can afford.
