Size matters

Sharing a room with a server with half a terabyte effective storage, with 0.5T and 1T drives available for not much money, the subject of "Remember when ..." 10Meg was a lot of space? When 1Gig was thought to be more room than anybody could need for most purposes? When a terabyte was thought to be an outrageous amount of space?

Which then prompted, what's next? What's the next prefix?

The 19th General Conference on Weights and Measures in 1991 extended the list of metric prefixes. The list can be found here

For those who only want to know the next prefix, it's peta.

Petabyte. Sounds like something the neighbor's dog would do.
